Give Me The Grateful Life - Monday

Wait, I'm not even sure I know how to do this anymore...

Hey, I think I've got it, I think I remember how to post!

Hello bloggers, I am back.  At least for today, I make no promises I might otherwise break.
I wanted to stop in and share a little WHOLE LOT of gratitude this beautiful, post-election Monday.  I hope you'll join me.
  1.   I am grateful for the ability of the American people to recognize a hero when they see one.
  2.   I am grateful to be a citizen of what can once again become the powerful and respected nation it has been in the past.
  3.   I am grateful for my writing class where I have, so far, written four pieces of which I am proud.
  4.   I am grateful for the hours (and hours) I have set aside to follow my dream, even though much else has fallen to shit.
  5.   I am grateful to my kids for making me laugh.
  6.   I am grateful to my husband for putting up with me.
  7.   I am grateful to the bloggers who let me get away with starting a contest and never finishing it.  SO SORRY!
Oh, who am I kidding trying to stay calm?  I am SHOUTING FROM THE ROOFTOPS grateful that we BARACK-ED the vote!  From all I've read and all I've heard (you must see last night's 60 MINUTES interview of  his campaign staff), if anyone can take us to the promised land from this shit heap we're currently mired in, it's this man.  GO OBAMA!

The Great Schlep: Be A Part of History!

I don't usually use this blog to espouse my political views.
So many of you already do that much better than I ever could.
If you're not an Obama supporter, consider yourself forewarned.
You can come back Monday.
I won't be upset.

This came my way last night from my friend MAC who is going to Vegas soon to pound the pavement for Barack.

I found it so funny and so important, that while I'm not flying to Florida anytime soon, I am sending it to everyone I know.  This includes my parents (who are supporters) so they can share it with all their Jewish friends who, despite their dislike for McCain, refuse to vote for a BLACK man.

OY.

Please share it with everyone you know.

One last warning:  It's Sarah Silverman so there's lots of profanity.  Enjoy!

Let's Do It Already! Let's Choose a Candidate

I know I've said this before but PLEASE make this primary end, PLEASE.

To anyone who lives in Indiana or North Carolina: I know you're excited, I know this time around your votes actually count for something - so, I beg of you, make them count! Tip the scales. Vote for who you think is going to win and end this madness.

It's not that I don't care, it's that I do. This democratic election started out with hope and promise that has deteriorated into a deplorable battle of negatives and a bottomless pit of disingenuousness.

In the beginning choosing between Obama and Hillary was like choosing between ice cream and cake; either one tastes good going down. Now choosing between them is like choosing between the smelliest cheese - France's Vieux Boulogne or, perhaps, Limberger. Both candidates reek with the aging stench of past lies and contaminated affiliations.

I don't trust either of them anymore between Hillary's blatant storytelling about sniper fire in Bosnia and Obama's quick flip from supporting his family minister of 20 years to disavowing of him. Their chameleon-like personalities change depending on the political climate of the location du jour. One moment, Obama is a private school, Ivy League educated elitist and another, as in Indiana, he is guzzling beers and, per NYTimes' Maureen Dowd, "getting down". Hillary remains aligned to her blue-collar roots despite the hundreds of millions she has in the bank.

Worse still, the more we shine the spotlight on Hillary and Obama's screw-ups, the better John McCain looks. Even his seeking out of Reverend Hagee's endorsement (a man who says Hurricane Katrina was an act of God in response to an upcoming gay rights parade) gets little coverage in comparison to the Obama and Rev. Wright debacle. (See Frank Rich's Opinion article in the NYTimes as well as Media Matters which has Hagee's direct quote.)

Is it their fault or ours? Can anyone's character withstand this rapid-fire assault? Can anyone be everything to all people? Are we forcing our candidates to pander in order to get the votes? We must reach a Democratic denouement and fast or, at this rate, we're going to have a President in office worth less than the toilet-tissue our dollar is printed on.

WANTED: POLITICAL BREAK UP AND FAST

I don't know about you but I'm fed up with the Democratic candidates. It's a shame because until recently I loved them. I was excited for our country, I even had HOPE. For the first time in forever I believed the Dems had two amazing, inspiring, completely capable candidates; my only frustration was deciding between them.

Now I can't stand either one. It's like the boyfriend you fell head over heels with, spent all your time with, invested all your hopes and dreams into, only to look at him in one instant and want to vomit.

I feel bad, I really do, but Hillary and Barack have become so nasty, the perpetration and defense of their gaffes so loud, that I can no longer hear them when they speak about policies. (Policies?? Are they important in a political debate?? Hmmm.) I'm having trust issues and besides that, they're both starting to annoy me.

I hope Pennsylvania ends this bad relationship one way or the other. Barack, you think the Pennsylvanians are bitter - they're not the only ones.

We need a break-up and we need it fast.
