Excellent article. She speaks of something that I find deeply troubling as a teacher, especially when it comes to our boys. I see two things at play: we try to "diagnose" every personality quirk, and we try to rationalize the fact the we refuse to require our kids to behave with the fact that they can't without special help because they have a "disorder."
Which can make teaching a real nightmare, because so many children have diagnoses that cause us to spend WAY too much time trying to get them to behave in a way that's conducive to learning.
